Ek Chutki Sindoor vs Female Agency

Ek Chutki Sindoor vs Female Agency

Many things have been said when arguing about whether serials are regressive or not. Pseudo-intellectuals dismiss serials offhand without investing much time in understanding the immersive nature that its grammar and structure allows, while zealots choose to champion their favourite serial as being the paragon of excellence, as long as it focuses on the love … Continue reading »

  • Many thanks to Sehban Azim and Kunal Karan Kapoor for appreciating this blog on Twitter & Facebook last month. Aapne links kya share kiye, blog ki TRP jaise patang ki tarah udne lagi! A very heartening, and unexpected, gesture for this amateur television critic, I assure you! For old readers and new, coming soon - a blog post on the portrayal of women in Indian serials. Stay tuned :) Edited 30 April: I've decided I'm going to give the topic even more time than I usually take with my other posts, not only because it deserves to be well researched but also because as I started writing this article I realised exactly how complicated the evolution of the portrayal of women in Indian serials has been. It's certainly going to be an interesting journey for me - I'm looking forward to reading the two books that I've ordered on the subject, and hopefully (if I'm lucky) get to hear the opinions of some in the industry. Chalo, in the meantime I'm sure while this epic post is gestating I'll find something else to talk about!
  • The rate at which Na Bole Tum... Na Maine Kuch Kaha is continuing to win my heart ...ek gushing post ke poore aasaar lag rahe hain! Hafte do hafte ki baat hai.

Kahaani ghar ghar ki

Arz kiya hai:
Chajje chajje pe taar kapde latkaane ke liye,
chajje chajje pe taar kapde latkaane ke liye;
Aur ghar mein serial do-chaar hasne-rulaane ke liye

Serials on the small screen are as inescapable as the washing lines that clutter the rooftops and balconies of India. Just like there will always be those that complain about the washing lines, serials will always have their detractors. But both are such a regular feature in the routines of countless crores that if you haven't seen either you haven't fully seen India.

Slow Blogging

If you are wondering why this blog is always so slow to update then know that it is a deliberate choice. While I discovered this Slow Blogging Manifesto months after the inception of this blog, I do identify with it strongly. I like the idea of thoughts taking all the time they need to fully blossom into words that surprise even the writer herself. Not that that precludes me from writing fluff when I'm in the mood!

Taaron se bhari bhari meri hatheli

This pagal ladki thinks that one day she is going to be a writer on a serial. Now all she needs is someone to explain exactly how the heck one convinces someone in the industry to let her do this.
